Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
July 4, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today is July 4th and when I read the headline on Cyber Angler "3 Bones for 3 Brothers" it was time to simply say, "God Bless America." My report can't compete or compare with anything like that. GeezeLouize! Sorry to report all of my charter customers this week have been older married couples. Well let's see how they fared.

But as you know,

Tarpon: The big tarpon have all gone to Boca Grande. We scored several small fish in the 70-80LB class off Ft Myers Beach. Where? Well let me give you a can't miss hint. After scoring 3 fish b4 11AM, we beached da boat and went to Publix for sub sandwiches. My charter customers had to go to the bathroom and asked me if I wanted anything. "Sure, get me a foot long Italian Sub with everything, a side of jalapeno peppers, chips, large drink, oil/vin dressing on the side, and 6 oatmeal raisen cookies." By the time I finished eating, it was time to collect my fee. God Bless America! On the short ride home, we scored again. Nothing like 3 bones for 3 brothers but 2 tripletail ain't bad.

Tripletail: Yup, they are back. If there is better fish to eat I'm lost to know what it might be. We had no cork float rigs or live shrimp so it was DOA time. My last instruction before the throw was as follows: "Don't throw it any closer than 4-5 ft away."

Oh well, out goes the DOA and headed right for them. The pearl with red lands right on top of the 2 trips.

BAAAAAM! 20 Minutes later a nice 13LB 6Oz tail. His buddy was next. My customers were so happy they were "Giddy." (Sure it's kinda weaak but what do you expect after 3 Bones for 3 Brothers).

Snook are hitting heavy on the beach. I've gotta go make a few 900 calls. This concludes my report. "GiddyUp!"
