Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

As Hurricane Dean passes less than 200 miles away, SWFL is feeling the effects. In a way, it is kinda nice to get blown by Mother Nature. The fishing has been half way decent so without getting long winded, here's the scoop. The straight scoop with no smoke being blown up your ( ? ) fill in the blank.
Redfish: Good scores of Reds are being taken by live bait anglers just north of Charlie Pass. Charlie is just north of Redfish Pass. If you don't know where Redfish Pass is, perhaps you dropped too much acid. Ladyfish, Pinfish, and Live Shrimp under popping corks will produce nice fish around the stumps, oyster bars, and bushes. "Bushes" aka as Mangroves. OK? GiddyUp! For the 16,000th time, the 2 hours before High Tide and the 2 hours after High Tide work best. Sharks and Big Rays are causing most anglers anguish and apprehension. The Bull Sharks have scared the living crap out of me especially when I went wade fishing. Not anymore!
The East Side of Pine Island Sound around Flamingo Bay is producing as well. Early is better than later.
Snook are seemingly everywhere. Try the docks at the entrance to Tarpon Bay. Especially the first one.
Tarpon have been a nice surprise lately. It is so weird to be on a family charter (whereby they hold the spinning reel upside down) and be fishing for ladies, spanish, or trout and BAAM, a Tarpon jumps your light tackle. Customers freak out! Lately, it has become a common event.
I'll be headed for San francisco for 2 weeks. It is time for a GiddyUp vacation. Salmon fishing, steelhead, and striper along the beach. It will be great to cool off. As well, it will be great to bait my own hook.
