Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Specks and reds!

The fishing the past few weeks has been much of the same. Lots of specks mixed in with some redfish. One thing that has changed is that the fish are moving around alot. One day we'll catch 40-60 trout on a flat and the next day we won't get a strike. All in all if you move around alot it's just a matter of time unitl you find the fish.

Trout fishing has been the staple for the past two months. Good numbers of keeper trout are comming from a variety of grassflats from both end of Pine Island Sound. Fish the potholes on low tide and move up on the flats as the tide rises. Most of our fish have been taking Love's Lures swimming shads and other soft plastics.

Redfish fishing has been good around the bushes on high tide. We had a coouple of good days on large slot reds using shrimp along the mangroves and found plenty of "rat" or sublegal reds in the creeks with the same setup. I have been finding reds all the way from Alligator Creek to the Sanibel Bayou area.

The forecast for the next few weeks should be much the same. Some guides have reported that some bait has started to show up which means snook fishing will start to improve. I can't wait.

Good Luck

Capt. Scott Hughes

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
