Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Fishing is Heating Up!

This report is going to be short and sweet. I've been running 6-7 days a week and have had very little time or energy for working on a computer.

Snook: are on fire right now. They are migrating out to the beaches and are feeding on on "white bait". Start looking on the flats and island that are closer to the passes.

Redfish: are still strong with most of the fish running 4-6 pounds. Live sardines, shrimp and cut bait has done well.

Trout: are about as good as it gets around here. Thirty to fifty fish mornings are common with 90% in the keeper range. A few "gators" over twenty inches are normal as well. I've been using soft plastics.

Tarpon: We caught our fist for the season this week out of Marco Island. It was in the 170 pound range. We had a few other hook-ups but they came unbuttoned. It should only get better from now on.

Good Luck!

More Fishing Reports:

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
