Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Capt. Scott Hughes

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon fishing is excellent

Most of the past month has been devoted to tarpon fishing. Its been great to get out the big guns and real drag pulling action. The weather has been really warm the tarpon love it. I've had some outstanding tarpon fishing in Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor. We are finding large groups scattered out over several miles of deep harbor water and the sloughs in on the west side of Pine Island. Live threadfin herring have caught the most but I am getting a few on plastic swim baits. I have also been catching some nice tarpon in the 10,000 Islands. We are hitting 30-60 pounders on top water early in the morning and catching 100+ pounders along the outside bays with live mullet.

The forecast for tarpon is excellent since the season is just starting and doesn't slow down until September. For those of you who aren't into tarpon there are plenty of snook and some redfish around.

Good Luck!

Capt. Scott Hughes

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
