Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Capt. Scott Hughes
April 9, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's Grande Slam Time!

The time has officially arrived where we can expect a chance a real Grande Slam on most days. For those who don't know what a "Grande Slam" is, it consists of catching a tarpon, snook and redfish in a single fishing trip. Most of the year tarpon aren't readily available so we call it a "Flats Slam" whe someone catches a snook, redfish and a trout in a single trip. We started catching tarpon early last week and found good numbers of tarpon each day from Marco Island all the way north to Boca Grande. The snook fishing has been excellent for some time now and continues to be solid. The redfishing has slowed to a degree but there are still large schools of reds roaming the area but have been getting pressured alot and they have become very spooky. A cold front that passed though Easter weekend put the tarpon down and slowed the snook bite but today the snook turned on again and I'm going tarpon hunting in the morning. Its just going to get better from here until mid July.

Good Luck!

Capt. Scott Hughes

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
