Ft. Myers - Offshore

Capt. Rick Featherstone
March 3, 2003
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Arrives!

Greetings;

With water temperatures steadily on the rise our hopes of pelagic's like kingfish rise each day. The bait migration into the area has started. A few kings, permit, and even a sailfish have been hooked this past weekend.

Offshore has been on winter pattern for some time but that is changing. The snapper bite has been good lately, mangrove, yellowtail, lane, and a few other have been the norm. Loads of short grouper are everywhere. Using light tackle they are a real test to the light tackle angler. The first kings of the season arrived over hard bottom spots over the weekend. Permit are on a few of the wrecks, and loads of spanish mackerel moved into the near shore waters off Naples. Sheepshead are biting well on the artificial reefs all along our coast.

Inshore snook are starting to move out of the creeks and wintering holes as water temperatures rise. Deeper mangrove shorelines adjacent grass flats have produced lately. Loads of sheepshead are under the Mangrove's as well. Solid trout action on the grass is good at high tide.

Watch the fog, have fun.

Sincerely,

Capt. Rick Featherstone
