Ft. Myers - Offshore

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Vacation

Greetings,

Have you ever wondered what a fishing guide does on vacation? Right! We go fishing. My lovely wife, two daughters with husbands, grandson, mother, father, aunt and uncle all headed for Marathon, Florida with our boats his past weekend. On my first morning I connected with good friend Capt. Paul of Strip Strike Charters for a wonderful afternoon of fly fishing in the backcountry of Islamorada. Using one of Capt. Paul’s favorite baby poon fly’s (inhaler) I was lucky enough to get one to eat about thirty pounds.

That evening the clan started arriving, and so did the wind. Next morning we launched the Magic Hook and headed for blue water. Facing a stiff eighteen knot wind just west of the Sombrero light a we trolled for two hours. Grandson Dylan, managed to land his first ever blackfin tuna. Everyone caught a tuna or bonito before we headed back to the coral reef for some snorkeling. Next day was even rougher, so we stayed right on the reef line trolling. After a few peanut dolphin it was back to the reef for more snorkeling, which we discovered was just too rough to try. Next day we worked the Seven Mile Bridge for tarpon with no success, but we very much enjoyed the family time together. We spent two days exploring the other keys, watching key deer, finding new places for dinner, naps, pool, and watching dolphins.

As of tomorrow its back to work. Fishing. Tough life, but somebody’s got to do it!

Tight Lines,
