Ft. Myers - Offshore

Capt. Rick Featherstone
January 30, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Big Fish Out Far!

Greetings,

On the nice days we are really catching some great fish right now! On the sloppy days we are working very hard for it. In general, the key phrase would be action.

On our Four Hour charters working on the near shore spots within five miles the fishing has been sporadic. Amazing one day, then meager the next. Within the last five days we have hooked big permit, tarpon, and cobia over the artificial reefs. On some days though, the bite seemed almost impossible.

Offshore to thirty miles its mostly a snapper fishery right now. But its the best I have seen in a long time. Mangroves, Lanes, Yellowtail are all eating. Many undersized grouper are being caught as well. The occasional cobia, shark, or kingfish is also hooked while chumming for the snappers. Live shrimp is the bait of choice.

Out past thirty miles to sixty miles, the big fish await you. Big Amberjack’s, goliath, cudas, sharks, and grouper, and Blackfin wait to destroy your muscles. The yellowtail fishing is as good as it can get on flags. Lots of chum, live shrimp are the ticket to the snapper, live baits on the big boys works best.

Screaming Drags,

Capt. Rick
