Fishing is still going strong for anglers aboard my vessels this past month. I have been primarily targeting redfish and snook on my charters. There are still plenty of tarpon around for those looking to do battle with the silver king but I personally have not been targeting them.

Most of our snook fishing has been taking place near our gulf beaches and passes. I have been running most of my trips very early in the morning and late in the evening in correlation with the tides. It is not uncommon for clients to catch 30 snook over 30 inches on my charters around our spring tides. Every aspect of these trips is strategically planned out to make sure that you have the best success.

The tackle that we have been using depends on where we are fishing. Typically, when we are fishing away from structure we use 12-20lb rods, spooled with 30lb mainline and a 40lb flourocarbon leader connected to a 4/0 Owner SSW hook. When fishing near structure on our big tides we have been upgrading to 65lb mainline and 60lb flourocarbon leader connected to a 5x 6/0 hook. The amount of weight used depends on depth, current, and the bait we are using.

We have been using Penn Torque Spinning Reels when fishing near structure to take advantage of its superior drag system and durability. When fishing away from structure we have been using Penn Slammer 460-760's. Be on the lookout for the new Penn Spinfisher V that will be released very soon. It won best new reel at ICAST in Orlando this month.

We have also been catching a lot of redfish in the passes and around nearshore wrecks in 8-20 feet of water. The best bait for these has been small croakers and pinfish.
Enjoy the report guys.
