Snapper Time!

Capt. Rick Featherstone
February 9, 2010
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Greetings,

With the temperatures acting more like a yoyo and the crazy fronts going back and forth I am both surprised and happy to say that the water quality offshore and the bite in general is very good.

Near shore the sheepshead bite although not in full swing is pretty good. Using shrimp and staying mobile we have managed to bring back several from three to five pounds this week. Mixed in are bull redfish which are always a welcome rod bend. All are trophy fish with many of them over the thirty pound mark. Further offshore on our eight hour trip this week we found excellent yellow tail snapper action. A free lined silver side was our best bite but shrimp worked as well. We also brought back a nice fifty pound amberjack, and released several more on that adventure. Although its catch and release now, we had a ton of fun with them catch and release fishing.

Inshore / Backcountry has been steady trout action. Ladyfish, whiting, and jacks have filled in to keep things going as well. We did one morning when the tide was right for tailing redfish. We stalked a half dozen but could not get one to eat a fly so switched to shrimp and got one six pounds.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,
Capt. Rick Featherstone
