Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Despite the ever present winds the fish have continued to cooperate. The bite has been very good in the backcountry and main waters of Estero Bay as well as in the Gulf. The above normal temperatures should hold for another week and that should keep things going right through the Thanksgiving holiday and into next week.
The trout must know that the season is closed. My anglers caught and released plenty of them in the slot range using live shrimp under popping corks on the grass flats. There were ladyfish, jacks and a few pompano mixed in.
The sheepshead are helping to take up the slack for the trout if you are looking for dinner. They've moved a little earlier than usual to their spots near the oyster bars at the top of the Bay. Small jigs or hooks tipped with live shrimp is the ticket. If they continue to steal your bait, downsize and lighten up on your leader.
Redfish are still biting as if it's October. We haven't had any serious cold fronts, as of yet, and they are eating just about everything thrown their way. We're starting to get a mix of under slot fish along with the occasional big one and there are still some good size schools out in the Gulf.
Speaking of the Gulf... The nearshore rocks and reefs are producing a nice mixed bag of fish if you can get out there on the days when the wind lets up. Pompano, snapper, flounder, spanish mackerel and sheepshead are all biting along with grouper, cobia and triple tail.
