Tarpon Bite Is On Near Fort Myers Beach

Capt. Rob Modys
May 18, 2010
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The tarpon bite is on! Large schools have been moving in just off of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island with most in the feeding mood. Live baits seemed to work best this past week but several were caught using cut ladyfish. Look for the muddy areas and start there. You'll also get lots of spanish mackerel, jacks and more sharks than this captain's seen in quite a few years. We've hooked up with bulls, lemons, duskys, hammerheads and black tip all in the same trip! The redfish are biting well in the backcountry on cut ladyfish, live shrimp on lead head jigs and live bait. We've been working the mangrove islands just before and after the high tide. There are also some very large jacks up in the north end of Estero Bay and they are tons of fun on light spin tackle or on fly.
