Tarpon Schooling Up Off Of Fort Myers Beach

Capt. Rob Modys
June 1, 2010
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon are in the nearshore Gulf waters and will eat if you get out there early enough. The best bet is live threadfins free lined while drifting. We've also been catching quite a few sharks, spanish mackerel and a few kingfish in the same area. Grouper digging has been going well on the patch reefs and rocks close to shore with each trip producing a couple of keeper gags. The golaith are there too and although you can't keep one, they are fun to wrestle with! The snook are starting their move to the beaches and are hitting well on artificials that imitate small minnows. The Mirrolure 17MR is a good one to try but remember to mash down the barbs because snook are out of season until September. Trout are hanging out near the passes during good moving water and have been eating live shrimp or smaller threads. The weather is here, time to go fishing!
