Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a few trips cancelled due to the large amounts
of freshwater running through the bays, passes and out into the gulf. I thought the fishing would slow down a little but I was wrong. This past July and into the first part of August has been the best fishing i've seen in years during this time. I still believe it's the rain keeping the water temps down and the amount of bait on the grass flats, beaches and over the wrecks.

The nearshore wrecks are producing some nice grouper with cobia, snapper, flounder and trout. Most of the grouper are 22-25". The cobia are undersize with some keepers mixed in. Choice of bait is pinfish fished on the bottom with a 1-2oz lead and a 4/0-5/0 circle hook.

The inshore fishing has been good the past two weeks. Redfish is at the top of the list. Look for good moving water and the higher stages of the tides. Pinfish under a popping cork or a freelined one will entice the bite.
