Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
June 28, 2009
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Last week sucked the big one. Too rough to fish the beach. Wind blowing off the Gulf to Inshore prevented any significant time movement. In other words, when Tide wanted to go out, Mother Nature kept blowin' in. I know, sounds kinky but its the best I've got. Remember the age old saying "wind from the East, fishing is the least and wind from the West, fishing is the best"? Whoever came up with that one sucks the big one as well. This does not apply on the West Coast of Florida (in my humble opinion). There's one for ya. Me admitting to humility. "GiddyUp"

Basically all week was spent inside. Sound great if you're at the Mustang Ranch in Winnamucka, Nv but inside Pine Island Sound in the summer is even too hot for Megan Fox. REDFISH are reported to be NORTH of Redfish Pass on the East Wall. Reported is the key word. I believe the Captain who told me this. SNOOK are literally everywhere but tide needs to move out before they go on the feed.

Tarpon were along the beach in fair numbers and on one GiddyUp Fishing Charters 2 dedicated Fly Fisherman threw everything but the kitchen sink at some but never scored. I just happened to have about 30 Threadfin Herring and on my first cast right into the middle school, hooked a 125LB and handed it to Senor Fly Senior. I took another spinning rod (12-20LB Rogue Rod Red Dawg and best rod I've ever used) and threw into the mix to Senor Fly Jr. 2 Seconds went by before handing him a fish. Guess what I wanted to do with those Fly Rods after seeing them almost wet themselves in excitment. Knowing I was looking at a handsome tip, all temptation to insert the fly rods soon passed.

We need a light offshore breeze for a week. Wind from the East. If you see or meet the guys who passes on the east-west wind wisdom, kick the numbnuts in the shins for me. It has been miserable here.

GiddyUp!
