Windy and Unpredictable

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
May 11, 2008
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

For as long as I've been in Florida, never have I seen the Tarpon bite so difficult to predict. OK, if you are saying or thinking "Same on GiddyUp, never positive, never a glowing report like all the other guides, always the same old BS news. I'm tired of it." WELL, I couldn't agree with your more Mi Amigo. Every morning when I leave my house and the wind begins to whistle, my instincts tell me to grab my ankels and prepare for mans worst nightmare. The annual finger wave. S-O-B. Trust me, when the Gulf starts to roll early, you are in for a tough-tough day. March was windy. April as well. Now it is F-May and it is still windy. CHECK OUT THE GOLF TOURNAMENT ON TV TODAY (PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP) 30++.

Tarpon: Same F-story as last report. Fantastic on Monday and no sign of fish on Tuesday. In other words, impossible to reasonable predict. Only 4 weeks of the Tarpon Season remain. I hope to have something more "positive" for you next week but know this: I refuse to BS for the sake of being "positive."

Snook: Gone is the legal season for harvesting these great fish but never have they been so easy to catch. OK, you want "positive"? Go to our beaches. Snook are everywhere. If you catch them pls take great care to revive them.

Trout: Again, right along the beach are some monster trout. If we had less wind, my reports would be more glowing. There is simply nothing I can do about this prevailing dynamic. GiddyUp!
