Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The early part of the past week brought very windy conditions to our area and turned Estero Bay into what looked like a giant washing machine. Things started to settle about mid week and the fishing improved steadily. My anglers caught a good number of black drum and redfish along the east wall of the Bay during the higher parts of the tides using live shrimp on jigs under corks. We also picked up a few sheepshead and mangrove snapper. The upper bays produced a steady bite of ladyfish and jacks. We free lined live shrimp and also worked them under corks.

The passes started to clear up on Wednesday and we were able to fish the near Gulf waters as well. We caught lots of small sharks in about 5 feet of water. There were also a few pompano, silver trout, whiting and spanish mackerel.
Just before the blow we were getting a good number of seatrout on the flats in about 3 to 4 feet of water. They should return by the weekend as the water begins to clear up. Live shrimp under corks and artificial plugs were working equally well.
