Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
April 27, 2010
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

April 27, 2010

INSHORE - The trout bite has been good even with all the wind. Try your luck at places like Harbor Branch or at the Mooring's flats. Use a live shrimp fished under a popping cork or a D.O.A. or a C.A.L. bait in a light color in 2 to 4 feet of water. The redfish bite has also been good around the mangroves and the docks along both South and North Indian River Drive. The bait of choice has been a live shrimp. The tripletail are starting to show up in on the channel markers to the south of the power lines. Again, try a live shrimp. The catch and release snook action has also been good around the lighted docks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and the best bait has been a live mullet.

OFFSHORE - The sea conditions have been rough but, the fishing has been good. On Saturday the dolphin were feeding on small ballyhoo in 70 to 140 feet of water. Dolphin to 25 pounds were reported. The kingfish bite was slow but the bigger fish came from along the beaches. and they were caught on live baits or a slow trolled ribbonfish. The biggest king that was reported was 30 pounds. The bottom fishing remains steady over the reefs and wrecks. I also had several cobia reported in 50 feet of water and they were taken on live baits.

TEEN ANGLERS - This Sunday will be the fish off for the Teen Angler of the Year. The top five high school and middle school Teen's will be competing. They are - High School - Shane Surrency, Pierce Hostetler, Taylor Meding, Dylan Sholander and Robert Dumont. In the Middle School - Maxwell Higgins, Helen Kinchen, Brennen Tessier, Ariel Vance and DJ Markowski. Good luck to all.
