Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

MAY 12, 2010
INSHORE - The windy conditions for most of this week has pretty much shut down the inshore fishing. But, on Sunday and Monday the redfish bite was red hot with big schools of fish both to the north and south in the river. The best places were the docks along South Indian River Drive and between the Mooring's and Round Island. A live shrimp was hard to beat. The trout fishing has slowed and so have the reports. I only had a few reports about trout at Harbor Branch in 2 to 4 feet of water and they were taking a live shrimp or a top water bait. The catch and release snook action is still good around just about any lighted dock along the Ft. Pierce Inlet.
OFFSHORE - Not much to report due to the sea conditions. A few dolphin were reported this week in 140 to 260 feet of water and they were all under 15 pounds. If you can get out try 60 to 80 feet of water for a kingfish. Slow troll a mullet. Most of the kings have been from 10 to 30 pounds. I did have several reports of cobia and they were taking jigs. There is still plenty of spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks along the beaches.
TEEN ANGLERS - This past Sunday was the tie breaker fish off for the Teen Angler of the Year. Current Teen Angler of the Year -- Shane Surrency went head to head with Dylan Sholander for the title. When all the points were totaled -- Shane came out as the winner. This is the first time that a Teen has been the Teen Angler of the Year for two consecutive years. Congrats to Shane & Dylan.
2nd ANNUAL DOCKSIDE INN - MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND TOURNAMENT -- Saturday - May 8th was the 2nd Annual Dockside Inn's Mother's Day Weekend tournament. Charlie Conner and $125 cash and a gift certificate for a 1 night stay in a water front room at Dockside Inn. Colton Surrency caught a 2lb. 6oz. redfish and he received $75 cash and a canvas tote bag. There was no fish weighed for 3rd place.
