Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
January 18, 2011
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

1-18-11

INSHORE - The weather this time of year is a major player when it comes to fishing. Try your luck the day before the cold front is to arrive. I think you will be surprised by the difference in the bite as compared to just a regular day of fishing. Look for plenty of action around the Ft. Pierce Inlet with bluefish, spanish mackerel and jacks feeding on just about anything that is shinny. The catch and release snook action should be good around any structure in the deeper water. Live baits like a pinfish or a pigfish will be hard to beat. The trout and redfish bite will be good in the deeper cuts and channels. A live shrimp will be hard to beat. Around the local bridges you will find a good sheepshead, black drum, croaker and bluefish bite. Live shrimp will be your bait of choice.

OFFSHORE - Again, the sea conditions are everything. On the nicer days look for sailfish to be moving south and taking ballyhoo. There should also be scattered dolphin in that same area -- try starting in 90 feet of water. The kingfish should be around the Offshore Bar and taking live baits live blue runners. The beaches should be loaded with spanish mackerel and bluefish and they will be hitting spoons. Up along the shoreline the pompano, weakfish and whiting will be taking live or fresh dead shrimp.

If you would like to report a catch you can e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 772-201-5770.
