Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Fishing Report

Capt. Joe Ward
September 30, 2011
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

SEPTEMBER 30, 2011

INSHORE - The redfish bite has been red hot with a lot of over the slot size fish being caught by anglers fishing in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Finger mullet, select shrimp or a pinfish have been working the best. The snook have been active around the local bridges and in Taylor Creek with mullet being the top bait to use. However, the trout bite has been off this week with only a few keepers being reported. Most of the trout were caught on a soft plastic bait at placed like Herman's Bay, Pete Stone Creek and at Harbor Branch. The snapper bite is still good around the bridges and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The best bite has been at night on finger mullet or squid.

OFFSHORE - The dolphin bite this week has been out around 400 to 500 feet of water. We had a dozen or so come in that went from 8 to 20 pounds and they were all caught on a ballyhoo. The AJ bite has been good over the deeper wrecks and these fish were taking mostly live baits. We also had reports of a fairly good sailfish bite starting in 80 feet of water to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The sails were taking slow trolled live baits. If you are looking for some good action then fish around the mullet schools for kingfish, tarpon, bonita and plenty of sharks. The bottom fishing has also been good over the reefs an d wrecks when using both live and cut baits.
