Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

With all the cool weather the water is still way to cold to catch a lot of fish but if you take your time and fish the deep holes you could catch a few fish to go with your grits and hush puppies. Most of the fish being caught are sheephead, croakers, bluefish and if you are lucky, a pompano or two. I did get several reports of flounder being caught.
SHEEPHEAD, CROAKERS & BLUEFISH - Try the channel edges to the south of the South Bridge. Small live shrimp is the bait to use. Drift just before the tides changes so there is not so much current.
POMPANO - Here's the ticket, run across the flats until you skip the pompano. Stop as quietly as possible and throw them a sandflea.
FLOUNDER - The jetty has been good for flounder of all sizes but most of them are small in size. Live shrimp fished on a trol-rite hook seems to be the best choice. Remember to fish the bait slow.
SNOOK - Snook season is almost here and it's going to be a good one. Have your bait ready along with you tackle for the opening on Feb. 1st. I have been doing a little catch and release pre-fishing for the season and I have been releasing some big fish.
Until next week, good fishing.
