Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
February 16, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE -Inshore fishing has been on one day and off the next at least for the snook and trout. Sheephead and sandperch have been the only steady action. In the surf there has been a good bite going on with the whiting and bluefish and there are plenty of jacks everywhere.

SNOOK - Most of the snook this past week has come from the North bridge or the Inlet. Live greenies have been taking most of the snook from these locations. Or if you were fishing in the Turning Basin at night you probably were using a chartreuse red tail hawk. This seemed to be what the snook wanted at night.

TROUT - The trout have been picky all week and were taking only small live shrimp fished real slow in 3 feet of water around the sand pockets. The blowfish were a problem all week constantly stealing the shrimp. Bear Cove and Middle Cove to the South and to the North, Round Island and Blue Hole were where most of the trout action was taking place. Late afternoon was when the bite was on.

SHEEPHEAD & SANDPERCH - No secret here, just go to the catwalk of the South Bridge with a few shrimp and get ready to eat fish.

WHITING & BLUEFISH - The surf has been active early in the morning for whiting. Then after a couple of hours the bluefish come in and take over. The best action has been around the Blind Creek area. Use shrimp for the whiting and cut bait for the blues.

Until next week, good fishing
