Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
March 9, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

There has not been much going on this week except for the high winds that have blown most of the week. This has kept most of the anglers at home instead of out fishing. I did have a few reports from the anglers that were brave enough to wade and they did quite well the first of the week with some nice catches of trout and redfish coming from the Midway Road and Little Mud Creek areas. Thursday and Friday the winds clamed down just enough for the boaters to get out on the water. These anglers reported good catches of snook and trout. The trout were caught just north of Harbor Branch in 3 to 5 feet of water on live shrimp. The snook were caught around the North Bridge and in the Turning Basin. Most of these fish were caught at night on live pinfish or pigfish and were in the 12 to 15 pound range. A red-tail hawk was running a close second as far as landing these snook. The sheephead, sandperch and snapper have picked back up on the catwalks on the South Bridge. The falling tide is still the way to go for these fish. The Jetty has been producing plenty of jacks mixed in with a few bluefish and spanish mackerel. I did weigh a 7 pound flounder caught Thursday morning. The flounder hit on a live finger mullet.

Until next week, good fishing.
