Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
March 16, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - The inshore fishing this past week has been SLOW due to all the wind we have been having. This would be a good time to due a little check and repair on your equipment. 1. Do a quick once over on your reels, grease the gears, replace washers, spool new line, ect. 2. On your trailer do a quick check of the lights, grease the hubs, check the tire presure, ect. 3. Check out your boat. Check all your electical equipment, check batteries, change the plug or plugs in your motor, check chair mounts, ect. All of this could save you a lot of time and heart ache when you get to the dock or when you try to land the biggest fish of your life.

SNOOK - The snook action has been slow for the most part but the ones that were caught came from the Turning Basin and around the bridges. On Sunday my wife, Cammie, and myself had our limit of snook. We had two 16's, an 18, and a 22. We went out early and were fishing in the Turning Basin. Live shrimp or a red-tail hawk was the ticket here.

TROUT - The trout bite has also been slow but if you go to the South around the Midway Road area, around the dock line you might get lucky. I had reports of a few trout being caught on rubber baits, cotee jigs and live shrimp. Most of the trout were in the 3 to 4 pound range.

REDFISH - There were several nice size redfish caught to the North around the Harbor Branch area.

SHEEPHEAD & SANDPERCH - These fish are stil going strong at the catwalks of the South Bridge. Live shrimp is the bait of choice fished on the last of the falling tide.

SURF - The surf has been producing a lot of whiting. The beach just south of Ocean Village was the place to be. Fresh dead shrimp and cut bait were working on these fish. The early morning bite has been the best.

Until next week, good fishing
