Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
March 27, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - The inshore fishing was good most of this past week even though the winds were strong and it was hard to find live bait. Monday of this week there was a good trout and snook bite but on Tuesday every thing shut down due to the front that came in.

SNOOK - The snook were active all week in the Turning Basin early in the morning or around the Bridges after dark. Most of the snook in the Turning Basin were caught on live bait and around the bridges a feather was the way to go. The Inlet has been giving up a few fish on the incoming tide when using live bait.

TROUT - The trout bite has been good if you could find two things, #1 - clear water and #2 - a place out of the wind where the water was about three feet deep. Live shrimp was the best bait with a root-beer jig coming in second.

SHEEPHEAD, SANDPERCH & GROUPER - Sheephead, sandperch and a few grouper are coming off the catwalks of the South Bridge. Small live shrimp or fresh dead shrimp are the bait of choice for these fish.

FLOUNDER - The flounder are feeding at the Jetty through out the day but it seems to be a wait and see thing until the flounder are ready to feed. The reports that I got prove that it is worth the wait.

SURF - The surf fishing has also been good for whiting early in the morning around the Ocean Village area.

Until next week, good fishing.
