Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore bite was great this last week with everyone reporting good catches of snook, trout, redfish, snapper and sheepshead.
SNOOK - The snook bite was the best at the North Bridge at night and during the day the Turning Basin, South Jetty and the South Bridge were the places to be. Live shrimp and pinfish took most of these fish.
TROUT - The trout have been on the flats to the North around Harbor Branch and Round Island. There were a few reports of trout being caught up around the flats at Queen's Cove. Live shrimp and a popping cork or live pigfish was the way to go with rubber baits coming in a close third. On Sunday my wife, Cammie, and myself went out and boated 22 trout to 3 pounds. We used both live and rubber baits. All fish were released.
REDFISH - The redfish are on the flats and I did get several reports of these fish being caught. Scott Seitzinger caught a 15 pound redfish. We saw several on Sunday but they were not feeding very well.
SHEEPSHEAD & SNAPPER - These fish are still hanging around the catwalks of the South Bridge and also along the channel edges. Live shrimp was the best bet.
I would like to say CONGRATS to my son Rob Ward and the crew of the Hook-N-Up. On Saturday, Rob, Billy Borland, Tony Brown, Hoss Perry, Gary Rein and Brady Borland landed a 44.7 pound kingfish and won biggest fish in the BlueWater Open here in Ft. Pierce. Way to go!
Until next week, good fishing.
Capt. Joe Ward
