Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
July 2, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing for trout, redfish and catch and release snook has been red hot in the early morning hours this past week. The tarpon are here but they are still being picky about eating. Most of the trout have been caught on live shrimp or pigfish from daylight until about 8:00am. Most of the bigger fish that have been caught were coming from the Midway Road area. I saw trout to 7 pounds on Wednesday. The redfish have been to the north of Round Island in 2 feet or less of water. You have to be quite because they are really skittish. Live shrimp or small crabs are the ticket here. The catch and release snook are starting to make their way to the Inlet with good numbers being reported on the falling tide. There has also been some big snook on the flats to the north of the North Bridge and they are taking big live mullet just after dark. And for the Big Sliver King (TARPON), I have been seeing them everywhere in the channels to the North around Harbor Branch and all the way south to Big Mud Creek. The tarpons favorite place this time of year is Big Mud Creek. It has also been a good week for snapper with catches reported coming from hot spots like the Ft. Pierce Inlet and the channel edges to the south of Bear Point. Live shrimp seems to be the bait of choice.

Until next week, good fishing.
