Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, I guess the biggest thing to report this past week is all of the fresh water that is flowing into the Indian River from Taylor Creek which is making the inshore fish a lot harder to find. If you are lucky enough to find the fish then it is hard to get them to eat. The only fish that really likes these conditions are the snook that are in Taylor Creek. If you want to catch and release a big snook, then get a big live mullet and go to Taylor Creek. Start fishing at the railroad track bridge and work your way back to the spillway.
Trout fishing has slowed a lot this week, again due to the water conditions but I did have reports of pockets of clean water in various parts of the river. If you were lucky enough to find one, then you found the trout. From Midway Road south to the Power Lines in the river seemed to be the places to be. Try fishing from first light and use a top water bait.
There are still a few sheepshead and snapper being caught on the channel edges with the snapper bite being better at night. There are plenty of jacks and tarpon hanging around the Inlets. The jacks will eat just about anything you throw at them but the tarpon are still being picky about what they are eating.
Surf fishing has been on one day and off the next. For the most part there has been good whiting action on the falling tide around the Ocean Village area. Small live shrimp seems to be taking most of the whiting. There has been a lot of sharks reported in the surf this past week.
Until next week, good fishing.
