Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
August 11, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing is still not what it should be this time of year. With all the rain we have had a massive amount of fresh water dumped into the Indian River. This has made inshore fishing very difficult.

If you were one of the anglers who was willing to work for his catch then you probably landed one of the bigger trout that came from the south in the river where the water is just a little clearer. Most of the trout this past week came from Bear Point down to the Midway Road docks. The trout were caught in the early morning with a live large shrimp or a live pigfish. The Jensen Beach Causeway has also been active for trout fishing during the evening hours with live shrimp being the bait of choice.

The catch and release snook action has been good at all of the area spillways. At the C-24 Spillway a live shiner or a big plug were landing the bigger snook. At the Turning Basin a live mullet, top water plug like a Zara Spook or a Red Tail Hawk were doing the job on the snook. There were also a few snook around the area bridges with the night being more productive than the day hours.

Bottom fishing in the river has been good on the high tide when the water is the cleanest. A good number of flounder and snapper are being caught from the South Bridge when usinmg shrimp.

Until next week, good fishing.

Capt. Joe Ward
