Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
October 28, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing has been good all week even though the weather hasn't. The snook action has been hot on the the tide changes at both bridges, the Turning Basin, Taylor Creek and the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Mullet and pigfish are the baits of choice for these fish. I had several reports of snook in the 38 inch range that were caught and released up in Taylor Creek.

The trout have been slow around Ft. Pierce but from Midway Road south the bite has been good early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Topwater baits, live shrimp and finger mullet have been the baits of choice with one working just as well as the other.

There are plenty of sandperch around the local bridges with a few sheepshead and snapper mixed in. Live shrimp have been hard to beat when fishing for these fish.

The fish giving up the most action this past week has been the Spanish mackerel. They are are over the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in the Turning Basin. All you need is a small spoon and a light leader wire. Just remember there is a 12 inch minimum and a limit of 15 per person per day.

The flounder have been showing up with excellent reports fron the Sebastian Inlet. The flats to the south of the South Bridge are also holding some nice flounder. Live shrimp fished on the bottom have been the way to go.

Until next week, stay warm.
