Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
February 28, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook fishing came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday with the cold front moving in. From Saturday until Tuesday night the snook bite was going strong around the area bridges and also in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Your best bet was an hour before the tide change and a nice sized pigfish was hard to beat. There were a couple of reports of snook being taken on a Flair Hawk and even a few on large size shrimp. On 3 charters this week we released 14 snook and kept only 2 that were in the 12 pound range.

Trout fishing has remained steady with trout to 8 pounds being reported. The Moorings in Vero Beach and the Harbor Branch and Round Island flats in Ft. PIerce have been producing the most fish. A small pigfish or a large shrimp fished under a popping cork was the way to go. On Monday we caught out limit of trout before 9:30am.

The sandperch, croakers, sheepshead and a few snapper have remained steady for the anglers fishing from the catwalks of the South Bridge. Fresh dead shrimp or a small live shrimp has been the way to go.

With this front coming in it has slowed the bite way down and I hope by next week I will have a longer report for you.

Until next week, good fishing.
