Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore fishing has been red hot for trout. The best trout action has been from first light until about 8:00am and try using a top water bait. After that try free lining a live shrimp. The early anglers have been reporting trout to 8 pounds. Some of the best spots to try have been Bear Point, Little Mud Creek and the are between Harbor Branch and Queen's Cove.
Snook fishing has been on one day and off the next with the best bite being around the area bridges. Live baits have been the way to go. The night snook bite has been steady for the anglers that are throwing big feathers. However, a lot of over sized snook are being reported so make sure you are careful when handling these big fish.
The snapper, sheepshead and bluefish are keeping the bridge anglers busy through out the day. Small live shrimp, fiddler crabs or frozen shrimp are the best choices to land these fish.
The whiting are making a showing in the surf. The falling tide has been producing the most fish. Fresh dead shrimp has been the bait of choice.
The Forest Grove Middle School's chapter of the National Teen Anglers held their 3rd tournament of the year on March 16, 2002 at Round Island in Ft. Pierce. 3rd place trophy went to Gerald (Yogi) Cheatman, 2nd place went to Taylor Purcell and 1st place and biggest fish went to Jacob York. The teen anglers weighed in sheepshead, bluefish, trout and quite a few snapper. If you are a teen between the ages of 13 and 18 you can go to the website at www.teenanglers.org and get more info on joining Teen Anglers.
Until next week, good fishing.
