Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
May 22, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

With the close of snook season just a little more than a week away the winds have kept most of the snook anglers at home. But, I have gotten a few reports from the diehard snook fishermen who were catching nice sized snook on live bait at the City Marina in Ft. Pierce.

Not a lot of trout action to report this past week due to the strong northeast winds. A few trout were caught back in Faber Cove and also the cuts around Round Island that were out of the winds.

The bridge anglers have been doing the best with plenty of snapper, sheepshead and flounder reported coming from the catwalks of the South Bridge in Ft. Pierce. Small live shrimp seems to be the bait of choice for these fish.

There has been a good redfish run along the cuts around Little Jim Bridge in Ft. Pierce. Try fishing the falling tides and a small crab or a finger mullet has been the baits of choice.

I would like to give a big thumbs up to my son, Rob Ward, and the crew, Hoss Perry, Gary Rein, Brady Borlin and Billy Borlin of the Hook-N-Up for their 10th place finish in the Daytona S.K.A. Fishing Tournament.

Until next week, keep fishing.
