Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
July 27, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing in Ft. Pierce has remained steady for trout. The most action has been coming from areas like Harbor Branch, Round Island, Little Mud Creek and the Mooring up near Vero Beach. A topwater bait fish from first light until about 8:00am has been the way to go. After then you will want to try a live shrimp and a popping cork or free line a live pigfish. On one charter this week we has trout to 7 pounds at Harbor Branch.

The catch and release snook action has also been good with snook to 12 pound being caught around the area bridges and up in Taylor Creek. Live pinfish have been the bait of chioce for the snook. Remember to handle the snook as little as possible.

The snapper bite along the channel edges has been steady with fish to 2 & 1/2 pounds. A live shrimp has been hard to beat.

The tarpon are slowly making their way onto the flats but many are still staying around the mouth of and just inside the Ft. Pierce Inlet. With all the fresh water runoff from the spillway at Taylor Creek it is keeping them from their usual summer patterns. I had reports od tarpon to 150 pounds being caught just inside the mouth of the Inlet.

That's my report for this week. Keep fishing.
