Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most anglers have their attention on snook which have been slow but with the water temps coming up the bite should start anyday. There have been a few fish caught around the Turning Basin and the bridges at night on the outgoing tide. The only problem has been that the bite has been between 2 & 4 am. A little early for most anglers.
The trout action has picked up with fish to 6 pounds being caught at The Mooring to the north and at Herman's Bay to the south. Live shrimp fished under a popping cork has been the ticket.
The sheepshead, sandperch, snapper, bluefish and spanish mackerel are still going strong around the bridges and the area between the North and South Bridges. These fish have been taking both live and dead shrimp.
Last Saturday, Feb. 22, was a second Teen Anglers tournament of the new year. 1st place and heaviest trophies went to Drew Hood for a 3.4 pound trout. 2nd was Kori Benton - 2.11 pound sheepshead, 3rd was Michael Dickson - 2.9 pound trout, 4th was Mario Zungia - 2.7 pound bluefish and 5th was Devin Moberg - 2.5 pound flounder. The next Teen Anglers tournament will be March 8th, at Jaycee Park from 7am to noon. Website for more info is www.teenanglers.org
Until next week, keep fishing.
