Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
March 26, 2003
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Indian River has been giving up plenty of fish this week starting with trout. Most of the fish have been in 2 to 4 feet of water and are taking live shrimp or greenies fished under a cork. They are also taking a rootbeer colored Cotee jig. Most of the trout have been caught in places like Big & Little Mud Creeks, Bear Point and to the north at Harbor Branch and Round Island.

The snook action has also been good in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Try fishing the first part of the out going tide and fish with pinfish, pigfish or greenies. I had reports about a lot of fish over the 34 inch slot size that were released.

Now for the bottom fishing. The channel edges in Ft. Pierce have been hard to beat with good catches of snapper, sheepshead and small grouper. Most of the fish have been taken on live shrimp.

The South Jetty at the Ft. Pierce Inlet has been producing a lot of flounder. Almost everyday the anglers have gotten their limit of flounder. They have been using a trol-rite hook and a live shrimp.

Until next week, good fishing.
