Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
November 16, 2003
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

November 14,2003

INSHORE - Not much change this week with weather conditions still not that great. I did get a few reports of snook around the area's bridges after dark and they were being caught on live baits or jigs.

Trout fishing has been OK if you could find some clear water out of the wind. Try using a live shrimp or a finger mullet. The only redfish being reported this week came from along the dock line at St. Lucie Village. Most of the reds were caught on gold spoons.

The big snapper have slowed down but there are still plenty of legal size snapper along the channel edges of the Indian River. Along with the snapper there has been the start of croakers, spanish mackerel and bluefish.

In the surf there has been pompano, spanish mackerel and bluefish. It seems that they have been hitting on cut baits. Try fishing the area around the Nuclear Power Plant and fish the out going tide.

OFFSHORE - With a small break in the weather several boats ventured their way offshore and did report dolphin in 90 to 300 feet of water and they were hitting on ballyhoo. I did get one e-mail from Tom Wichers about dolphin. On Sunday Tom and his son's Skyler (10) and Van (7) went out the St. Lucie Inlet and got three dolphin to 10 pounds. They were trolling ballyhoo in 130 feet of water and along a weedline at the 85 - 90 line. Later in the day they were using live baits and caught three sharks. They did say it was a wet ride and they did not see many boats.

I got reports of kingfish in 70 feet of to the north of the Ft. Pierce Inlet and the best bait to use was a blue runner but they were hard to find. A few snapper and grouper were reported in 55 to 90 feet of water but the sea conditions were not really good for bottom fishing.

If you would like to report a catch, call me at 772-201-5770 or e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also rwach me on the web at www.captjoeward.com

Until next week,
