Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

November 18, 2003
INSHORE - Water clarity and wind conditions have made fishing a little tricky, but for the anglers that put the right combo, bait & tide, these anglers did report a good number of fish. There were a lot of catch and release trout reported early in the morning at the Round Island area and you might want to try the Midway Road area just before dark. Live shrimp or finger mullet have been working the best.
Snook action is still off one day and on the next with most of the fish reported coming from the docks around the local Inlets and finger mullet have been the bait to use. Either tide change has been working about the same.
There have been a few snapper along the channel edges but most of them have been small. The sheepshead have started to show up as well as the spanish mackerel and bluefish. Most of these fish are still concentrated around the Inlets and in the Turning Basin in Ft. Pierce. The flounder have made a good showing this past week with a lot of finger mullet around for them to feed on.
The local chapter of Teen Anglers will hold their first fishing tournament of the season this Sunday, November 23 at Jaycee Park at 7:00am. The teens will fish until 12:00 and then hold a weigh in. If you would like to be a sponsor for Teen Anglers, call Capt. Al Bernetti at 772-468-0824. Any teen interested in becoming a Teen Angler can go to the website at www.teenanglers.org
OFFSHORE - Sea conditions have not been good for the smaller boats but for the bigger boats it has been a few scattered dolphin and sailfish to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in 80 to 140 feet of water. There were a couple of reports of tuna in the 10 to 20 pound range and also kingfish to 30 pounds in 80 to 100 feet of water.
Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has picked up on the days that the seas weren't so big. The spanish mackerel and bluefish are following the baits up and down the beaches in 30 to 40 feet of water.
If you would like to report a catch, call me at 772-201-5770 or e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also contact me on the web at www.captjoeward.com
