Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 8, 2004
INSHORE - Not much going on this week as far as fishing goes due to the damage to the area's boat ramps and bridges and if that is not bad enough the water is in bad shape too. There is a lot of debris floating and this has made boating dangerous and there are still some sunken vessels that are just making things a mess.
There are several bait stores that have reopened in the Treasure Coast area but some have limited hours and most are saying that they have live shrimp. You may want to give them a call before you go down. But, there are still a lot of shops that it will take a long time to repair and rebuild and a few that will never reopen. We wish them the best.
About the only action going on is the snook around the spillways like at Taylor Creek and C-23. Big artificial baits have been working well. I did get reports of some trout being caught along Indian River drive. Most of the reports were from anglers that live along the drive and are fishing off their docks or are wadding. I did get reports of some snapper, sheepshead and jacks around the Roosevelt Bridge but like everywhere else the water conditions are bad.
OFFSHORE - Conditions offshore are no better than inshore. Reports of dirty water and lots of debris floating around. The anglers reported big sections of docks, pilings, and pieces of boats floating around. So, if you do venture offshore please keep an eye out for these obstacles.
Not much to report about the fishing either. Some small dolphin, a few wahoo, some cuda's and a few bonita. Almost no live bait can be found. I did get a report from the boat Miss Molly. They released 1 sailfish on Monday and caught 6 small dolphin while fishing to the south of the St. Lucie Inlet in 110 feet of water.
Hopefully things will start getting better soon. I know everyone, including myself are ready to get back to fishing and stop working on our roofs.
