Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

November 3, 2004
INSHORE - The wind this week has slowed things down a little but there has still been a lot of trout being reported along the Treasure Coast from north of Ft. Pierce to the south of Jensen Beach. The best action has been on the high tides when the water is the cleanest. Fish in 3 to 5 feet of water and use a live finger mullet, live shrimp or a soft plastic bait -- these baits have been getting their share of trout. Remember -- trout season is closed during November and December so make sure you handle the fish as little as possible or not at all and release them unharmed.
I am still getting a lot of reports of redfish action along the dock lines of St. Lucie Village and on the flats just north of the North Bridge in Ft. Pierce. Again, try using a live finger mullet or a gold spoon.
The snook action has been wide spread with most of the reports coming from the area bridges. The North Bridge in Ft. Pierce and the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart have been two active places to fish. I only had a handful of snook reported coming from the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Once again, it is that time of year to be using live mullet.
The flounder action around the Ft. Pierce Inet has picked up this week with fish to 7 pounds being reported and the baits of choice have been a live shrimp or a finger mullet and fish them on the bottom. I did get reports of several big tripletails being caught on the channel markers to the south of the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant on Tuesday. Live shrimp was the bait of choice for these fish.
There is still a lot of fresh water coming from the St. Lucie River but the bridge fishing in Martin County remains steady but not red hot by any means. Big jacks, snook and a few redfish along with the spanish mackerel and bluefish are working their way to the Inlets. Reports of good catches from both the Ft. Pierce and St. Lucie Inlets were reported when the bait is there.
SURF - A little rough this week but still a good number of bluefish, spanish mackerel and pompano were reported. Most of the reports were from the areas north of Ft. Pierce.
OFFSHORE - Not much to report but as far as sea conditions were fishable but not for the anglers with weak stomachs. We did get reports of some dolphin in 130 feet of water to the south of the St. Lucie Inlet. They were caught on naked ballyhoo. We did have one good day for kingfish on Monday. There were several reports of a lot of kings in 60 feet of water between Ocean Village and the Walton Rocks.
Bottom fishing has been slow with a few anglers being lucky on the snapper in 40 to 70 feet of water and along the Six Mile Reef out of the St. Lucie Inlet. The surf has been rough but there has been plenty of spanish mackerel, bluefish and big jacks chasing the baits along the Treasure Coast beaches.
