Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
November 10, 2004
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

November 10, 2004

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good despite all the wind with a lot of catch and release trout action around the Spoil Islands and the docks along Indian River Drive. Live shrimp or a rootbeer colored D.O.A. shrimp seems to be the best baits to use.

There has also been a good number of slot sized redfish around the area bridges and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Use a big live shrimp or a finger mullet -- these baits have been hard to beat.

The snook action has been off and on this past week. One of the top spots is still up in Taylor Creek for the anglers using live mullet or trolling big plugs. Another good spot for snook has been around the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart at night. Again, live mullet has been working the best. Also from the bridges in Martin County there has been mixed catches of croakers, black drum, snapper and jacks.

The snapper bite along the channel edges of the Intercoastal has been steady with a good number of just legal size snapper being caught. Live shrimp has been the bait of choice for the snapper.

The spanish mackerel and bluefish are here and working their way through the area Inlets and along the beaches. A small piece of leader wire and a silver spoon will work just fine for these fish.

I did get a good number of reports of flounder coming from the Sebastian Inlet as well as from the area around the Ft. Pierce Inlet. All you need to do is net up some finger mullet which have been plentiful and put it on the bottom and the flounder will do the rest.

SURF - The surf reports are still about the same all along the Treasure Coast. Bluefish, spanish mackerel, big jacks and a handful of whiting and pompano are what's being reported.

TEEN ANGLERS - Good news for the local chapter of the National Teen Anglers! They are finally going to get the tournament year started after canceling the September and October tournaments thanks to Frances and Jeanne the November tournament is scheduled for Sunday the 21st at 7:00am at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. If you would like more info on joining Teen Anglers just go to their website at www.teenanglers.com

OFFSHORE - With all the wind comes the big seas making offshore fishing tough but several of the big boats reported a good dolphin catch in 130 to 160 feet of water to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The dolphin were caught on a yellow and green skirted ballyhoo.

Still a lot of kingfish in 70 to 90 feet of water out of Ft. Pierce and along the Six Mile Reef out of the St. Lucie Inlet. There were a few reports of some sailfish action to the south of the St. Lucie Inlet in 90 to 125 feet of water.

The sea conditions were not that good for bottom fishing but we did have a couple of nice days over the weekend and the first part of the week. I got reports of snapper, sea bass and flounder coming from 30 to 50 feet of water and again from the Six Mile Reef. And as before there are plenty of spanish mackerel, bluefish and big jacks cruising along the area's beaches. Just look for the birds.
