Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

November 18, 2004
INSHORE - Before the wind started blowing the inshore fishing was starting to get back to normal with plenty of catch and release trout being reported from the Mooring flats to the North all the way down to the Jensen Beach Causeway. Live shrimp fished under a popping cork was hard to beat. John Brady from Fort Worth, Texas caught and released a 9.6 pound trout while using this method on Saturday while fishing near Round Island. Along with the trout John released two redfish to 21 inches and a lot of jacks and ladyfish. Before the wind I had some nice catches of redfish being reported around the docks along Indian River Drive as well as from the area bridges. Try cast netting some finger mullet and putting one on the bottom. Not only will you probably catch a redfish but maybe even a flounder. The flounder bite continues to improve and will only get better as the water clears up some more.
The snook action has also been good during the day. Try the fenders of the area bridges and use a live bait. And at night try the same area's with an artificial bait like a Flair Hawk or a big plug. Taylor Creek has also been a good spot but the bit has been a little irregular. The best bite seems to be in the afternoon and when using a live mullet. When the Inlet hasn't been rough the snook, redfish, big jacks and spanish mackerel bite has been good.
The bridges in Vero Beach, Ft. Pierce and Stuart have been holding a good number of bluefish, snapper, some flounder and black drum. The croakers are starting to show up but not in great numbers yet.
OFFSHORE - As in the inshore report before the wind started to blow we had a good kingfish bite in 60 to 90 feet of water. There were some dolphin in 200 to 300 feet of water and a few sailfish along the Treasure Coast. The sails were between Ft. Pierce and Jupiter in 200 to 250 feet of water.
On the beaches there were still a good number of spanish mackerel and bluefish cruising the beaches.
TEEN ANGLERS - The first tournament of the school year for the local chapter of the National Teen Anglers will be this Sunday at Jaycee Park. Teen's should be there and ready to fish by 6:45am.
