Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 18, 2004

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY- Still a lot of wind and weather to contend with this week but there were still a few fish reported. Trout were around the Moorings Flats and a lot of spanish mackerel and bluefish along the channel edges. Some snook along the docks around Cash Kay and a lot of lady fish around the 115 channel marker according to Vero Tackle and Marina.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Still a few snook around the local bridges and in the Turning Basin when fishing the tide changes. Off the catwalks of the South Bridge there has been sandperch, black drum and a lot of sheepshead. Also reports of flounder around the South Jetty. Offshore there has been dolphin in 200 feet of water and still some cobia to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Plenty of small kingfish in 70 to 90 feet of water according to The Fishing Center of St. Lucie.

MARTIN COUNTY - There has been snook around the bridges and still a few croakers, weakfish and black drum being caught. Look for spanish mackerel around the St. Lucie Inlet. Offshore there has been some cobia to the north of the Inlet. Reports of some bigger kingfish to the South around Hobe Sound in about 60 feet of water. Only a couple of sails were reported this week.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - The speck bite has been the best at mid morning in the Lake and in the river. They have been feeding on minnows and jigs. The bass fishing has also been good with local guides reporting good fish down around Clewiston. You may want to try the Monkey Box and use live shiners or jelly worms in a black color.
