Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
September 15, 2005
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

September 16, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Inshore fishing for snook remains good around the Sebastian Inlet, along the docks of the Intercoastal and around the local bridges in Vero Beach. Look for the redfish around the spoil islands to the South and plenty of trout on the Moorings Flats. Along the channel edges there is plenty of snapper and sheepshead. As the mullet move through so will the tarpon and jacks.

Offshore the fish have been scattered with the only dolphin reported coming from the deeper waters. Still some kingfish and sailfish in around 100 feet of water. Lot's of cuda's and bonita around to keep you busy. The bottom fishing remains good around the Bethel Shoals area.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The inshore action has been good with the start of the fall mullet run with plenty of snook around the bridges and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Taylor Creek has also been a hot spot for snook. The trout and redfish have been around the docks along the St. Lucie Village area and live shrimp or a finger mullet has been the way to go. The snapper and also some pompano have been along the channel edges.

The offshore action is still slow with most of the action being scattered from 90 to 300 feet of water. A few dolphin were reported in out deep. There has been plenty of bonita, cuda's and a few kings mixed in from 70 to 90 feet of water. Still a couple of sailfish to the South in about 115 feet of water. Look for the big jacks and tarpon along the beaches.

MARTIN COUNTY - Just like the rest of the Treasure Coast the snook fishing in the St. Lucie Inlet and around the bridges has been good when using live baits. Some nice trout and redfish are being reported around the lighted docks along the Intercoastal. Look for the jacks, ladyfish and trout up on the flats. I did get a couple of reports of pompano around the power lines.

Offshore the reports are of some dolphin, again out deep, as well as some scattered sailfish, bonita's and cuda's. The wahoo were to the south of the St. Lucie Inlet. The mullet are on the beaches and the snook, tarpon and big jacks are not far behind.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - Bass fishing has been steady for anglers using live shiners or spinner baits. The speck bite has been good along the river. Still a good number of blue gills being reported along the Rim Canal and they were feeding on crickets and worms.

TEEN ANGLERS - The first inshore tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers will be held this Sunday, September 16th, at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. The teens will fish from 7:00am until noon at which time they will have a weigh-in. The teens will be awarded trophies and prizes for their efforts.
