Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 20, 2005
I just watched the latest update on hurricane Wilma and all I can say is we better be prepared. Hopefully something will happen and steer it away from us. After all the loses we suffered last year from Francis and Jeanne I am not sure if we can handle anymore destruction.
INSHORE - The weather this week hasn't been that great but Wednesday was the worst so far and today turning out to be a very nice day as of noon. I did get plenty of reports about the trout at daylight for anglers throwing top water baits. Try the east shore of the river from Bear Point to Herman's Bay. The snook have been a night thing around the local bridges in Ft. Pierce, along the lighted docks and in the Turning Basin. For the daytime snook try up in Taylor Creek with a big live mullet. There have been good reports of flounder around the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in the Turning Basin for anglers using finger mullet or large hand picked shrimp. The spanish mackerel, bluefish and big jacks are working the bait pods in the Ft. Pierce Inlet.
OFFSHORE - The offshore fishing has been slow due to the sea conditions but the bigger boats that have been able to go out are reporting scattered dolphin in 180 to 200 feet of water. There have been some kingfish in 60 to 90 feet of water and a few sailfish releases in about 100 feet of water to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The bottom fishing has been hard due to the swells but last Saturday and Sunday a few boats had some snapper, grouper and plenty of black seabass in 60 to 90 feet of water over the wrecks and reefs.
