Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

JANUARY 6, 2006
INSHORE - Fishing has been good when the weather permitted it. Look for a lot of croakers in the 1 to 3 pound range around the Faber Cove area. The weakfish have started to show up around the Sandpit. Also, plenty of black drum, sheepshead and sand perch around the area bridges. The trout fishing has been good in 3 to 5 feet of water at places that are out of the wind. This week the West side of the river has been the best. The catch and release snook have been around the docks along the Ft. Pierce Inlet and the bite has been good on the out going tide.
OFFSHORE - The sailfish are moving to the South but, I did get reports of several fish caught in 75 feet of water. These anglers were fishing around the bait schools. The dolphin have been scattered from 60 to 300 feet of water. Most of the fish caught have been under 20 pounds. The bottom fishing snapper and grouper with a few cobia mixed in has been good around the Northeast Grounds. The light tackle action along the beaches had been good for spanish mackerel, bluefish, and plenty of jacks. There has been weakfish and pompano in the waters just off the beaches.
TEEN ANGLERS - The local chapter of Teen Anglers will hold it's monthly inshore fishing tournament this Sunday -- January 8th at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. Hopefully the weather man will be wrong about how cold it is supposed to be. If you would like more info on Teen Anglers just go to the web at www.teenanglers.org
