Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

April 18, 2006
INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good this week with plenty of trout being reported. On my charter last Friday, Don Rufus caught a 31 inch -- 13 pound spotted seatrout. This was one of the biggest reported with plenty of trout in the 4 to 6 pound range. The snook fishing remains good at night around the bridges, in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in the Turning Basin. I have been getting a lot of snook over the 34 inch slot limit. If it is redfish you are looking for try the Round Island or Queen's Cove area early in the morning. There is still a lot of of sheepshead, snapper, spanish mackerel and bluefish around to keep you busy. There has been a few tarpon showing up in the Intercoastal. They were not feeding on Sunday or Monday of this week.
OFFSHORE - The offshore fishing has started to improve as the wind has layed down for a few days. The reports of dolphin to 20 pounds were good and the bite was starting in 150 feet of water. We did have several cobia being caught in around 80 feet of water. Also, plenty of sharks all over the place. Look for your kingfish in 50 to 80 feet of water and to the North of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has been on one day and off the next with snapper to 10 pounds and grouper to 30 pounds being reported. Along the beaches look for schools of big jacks, spanish mackerel and bluefish. And, there were a few tarpon reported around Vero Cove.
Good luck to the S.K.A. National teams that are in town for the tournament.
