Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

May 3, 2006
INSHORE - The inshore fishing this week has been tough with all the Northeast winds we have had. However, I did get reports from the anglers that went out anyway and some of the reports were good ones. There has been a good redfish bite on the East side of the river from Round Island boat ramp south to the Little Jim Cut. The trout action has also been good from Bear Point south to Big Mud Creek. Live shrimp is the bait of choice for the trout if you can find them. Some suppliers have been running short on their orders if they had any at all. Anglers fishing live baits as well as artificial's are picking away at the snook at night around the Turning Basin, the North and South Bridges and along the docks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The summer time snapper are starting to show up along the channel edges. Try using live shrimp or small greenies. I am getting a few reports of some tarpon both north and south in the Intercoastal.
OFFSHORE - No offshore report this week due to the sea conditions but, it looks like things might calm down for this weekend. If it does you can look for dolphin action to be good in 50 to 150 feet of water. The kings should be right along the beaches and also look for a cobia or two in that same area.
TEEN ANGLERS - The local chapter of Teen Anglers will hold their championship tournament this Sunday, May 7th at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. The top five students from the middle and high school divisions will compete for the Teen Angler of the Year award. For more info on Teen Anglers go to the web at www.teenanglers.org
BRAGGING BOARD - Savannah Ward, age 5 caught a 10 pound dolphin out of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in 150 feet of water. Henry Pederson caught and released a 38 inch snook while fishing at the Ft. Pierce Jetty.
